Operating System Update Needed for Microsoft Teams Desktop Client Support
Written by: Bruna Ferranti for TIC Newsletter
Starting October 15th, 2024, the Teams desktop client will begin notifying users, in-app, if they are on an unsupported Operating System (OS) version. Users will be required to update their OS to a supported version in order to continue using the Teams desktop client. If the device remains out-of-date, Teams desktop client will be blocked from use until updated.
Below lists the OS versions affected and their dates for end-of-support:
MacOS 11 (Big Sur) or older - November 15, 2024
Windows 10 Version less than 19041 - January 15, 2025
MacOS 12 (Monterey) - March 15, 2025
Windows 10 or 11 - August 15, 2025
To avoid interruptions, you must update your OS before the dates above. If a computer or device cannot be updated, Teams desktop client will no longer function.
What does this mean for current TIC clients?
If your device is on one of the older OS listed above, Teams will prompt users if a device is on an incompatible OS and needs to be updated.
You can also read more about how to upgrade on your own from the links below.
Windows Instructions: Upgrade to the new Teams client using policies
Mac Instructions: Install and prerequisites for the Microsoft new Teams for the Mac
In general, it is always important to keep your Operating Systems up-to-date to ensure the latest security patches are installed on your devices.
